Septmeber 4, 1998 HURRICANE DANIELLE BEARS DOWN ON TORI MURDEN, SOLO NORTH ATLANTIC ROWER

August 11, 1998 Tori crossed the halfway point today. Congratulations Tori!

July 15, 1998 Tori sent another message to her Louisville support team on Tuesday, 14 July 1998, through the Captain of a 150,000 ton British ship carrying coal on its way to the U.K. She said that she is fine and well but that the currents and headwinds are not presently favorable for fast progress. At the current rate Tori said that she anticipates arriving in France in mid Septmeber. The Captain confirmed that Tori sounds in good spirits.

July 8, 1998 A 652' U.S. Container Ship saw Tori yesterday, July 7th, at a distance of approximately one mile and spoke to her by VHF radio. Tori asked the Captain to call her support team in Louisville to report that she continues to do well. She told him that the American Pearl has capsized twice so far and that it righted itself as designed.

July 5, 1998 According to the Ocean Rowing Society web site of July 5, 1998: 'Ship reports in Tori's vicinity the last 4 days indicate that Tori has been faced with 10-15 knot winds out of the Southeast. We have received a "coded message" from Tori's Argos satellite beacon that says," NO PROGRESS, NO NEED TO WORRY, HEADWINDS, EVERTHING IS OK."'

June 26, 1998 A 90' fishing boat on its way to the Mediterranean passed Tori yesterday, June 25th, and stopped to talk to her. She was preparing her dinner and reported that she was doing well again after having to deal with strong winds and being out of the Gulfstream. She asked the Captain to call us to tell us that she is having trouble with her satellite phone and, for that reason, we hadn't heard from her since the weekend. The Captain said, "Tori has had a marvelous day, the weather is wonderful and she is wonderful!"
