PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Project Administrator for Empowerment Zone Initiatives, Louisville Development Authority. Responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing multi-million dollar programs designed to revitalize Louisville’s most distressed neighborhoods. Drafted grant applications that brought more than $5 million to the City. Involved in development projects totaling $45 million. Louisville, Kentucky, November 1994 to the present.

Project Coordinator for Public Policy, Office of the Mayor. Responsible for analyzing, articulating and promoting the public-policy initiatives of Mayor Jerry E. Abramson. Chief among those initiatives were the creation of a Community Development Bank, "CityWork" an award winning program designed to revitalize the productivity of the municipal government, and assisting with the completion of an Empowerment Zone Application submitted to the Department of Housing and Urban Development for $100 million. Louisville, Kentucky, September 1992 to November 1994.

Director of the Volunteer's of America: Women's Center. Responsible for the overall administration of a residential Center for homeless women, including crisis management, volunteer development, community outreach, public relations and fund raising. Louisville, Kentucky, December 1989 to September 1990.

Staff Member, City of Cambridge Department of Human Services, Multi-Service Center for the Homeless. Coordinated a variety of agency programs to influence policy and optimize benefits for individuals without homes and families in transitional shelters. Cambridge, Massachusetts, Fall 1987 to Summer 1988.

Health Services Supervisor, Life Adventure Camp. Directed the health, safety, and medical care in this rustic backpacking program for emotionally disturbed and behaviorally disordered teenagers. Lexington, Kentucky, Summer 1987.

Chaplain, Boston City Hospital. In this inner city general hospital, over 90% of the patients were uninsured. Victimization, drug abuse, emotional trauma and acute physical crises were combined with everything from A.I.D.S. to Yellow Fever. This created a work atmosphere which was always challenging and thought provoking. Recipient of the Hospital’s Commendation for Distinguished Service. Boston, Massachusetts, September 1986 to June 1987.

Smith College Sports Medicine Staff, Northampton, Massachusetts, 1982 to 1985.

CORPORATE AND BOARD EXPERIENCE:

Leadership Kentucky, Class of 1994. Recipient of the Wilson W. Wyatt, Sr. Award each class selects one member to receive this its highest honor.

Facilitation/Mediation trained in facilitation and mediation. Part of a six member team that teaches facilitation skills to employees of City and County Government.

Board Member DerbyCity Wheel-Chair Athletics working to promote the development and expansion of athletic programs for individuals in wheel-chairs.

Board of Directors, the Robinhood Project, October 1992 to December 1994.

Development Board, Volunteers of America, Summer 1990 to Fall 1992.

Board of Directors, Religious Heritage of America, Inc. The youngest director/trustee of this interfaith, non-political organization which strives to speak out on ethical issues in a non-sectarian way. October 1986 to October 1990.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE:

The International South Pole Overland Expedition. The youngest member of a nine member team, representing five nations, that cross-country skied 750 miles across Antarctica to the geographic South Pole. One of two women who were the first women in history to travel to the South Pole by an overland route. This was also the first expedition in which Americans reached the South Pole via an overland route.

Mountaineering Expeditions: Mount Silverthrone, Alaska; Mount Kenya, Africa; Nevado Sajama, Bolivia; Mount Rainier, Washington; Lewis Nunatuk, Antarctica; The "Kentucky Six Expedition" Denali (Mt. McKinley), did not summit. Ice Climbing Expeditions: Brooks and Muldrow Glaciers, Alaska. Sea Kayaking: Prince William Sound, Alaska; Kiwiyu Channel, Indian Ocean, Kenya. World First: First woman to ski to the geographic South Pole.

World First: First American to ski to the geographic South Pole.

World First: First Woman to climb Lewis Nunatuk, in the Antarctic.

INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES:

Public Speaking: Over 150 speeches to a wide variety of organizations. Topics range from homelessness, substance abuse and A.I.D.S. to motivational speeches about high altitude mountaineering.

Competitive Rowing: Contended for a position on the 1992 U.S. Olympic Team, as a single sculler. Currently, competing on a national level and coaching competitive rowers and scullers.

AWARDS AND HONORS

GENERAL COMMENDATIONS:

One of fifty Kentuckians selected to the Leadership Kentucky Class of 1994. Recipient of the Wilson W. Wyatt, Sr. Award. This award is given by the Leadership Kentucky Class to one individual for "unique contribution by a class member." It is the highest honor granted by the class.

Mayor’s Citation given Mayor Jerry E. Abramson in recognition of outstanding service rendered to the City of Louisville.

Business First, selected as one of their "40 Under 40" award reciepeints. Honored for community leadership, August 1996

Commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Wallace Wilkenson.

Re-Commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Brereton Jones.

Appointed as an Honorary Captain of the Belle of Louisville for evidencing "through works and deeds always being in full command when underway in any endeavor."

Designated as a Distinguished Citizen by the City of Louisville.

Boston City Hospital Commendation for Distinguished Service (as a Chaplain)

Hopkins Scholar, Harvard University: the "Hopkins Share" was established in 1636. It is awarded to a senior in the Master of Divinity Program who demonstrates the highest principles and integrity in service to the community.

National Youth Leader of the Year, 1985 ("Religious Heritage of America") This award recognizes outstanding community service.

Louisville Collegiate School, Distinguished Alumna Award, 1997.
