Analysis By Jenifer Clark, Tori's
Satellite Oceanographer

Chart one shows the rhumb line as the straight line that goes from the
Canaries to about 24N 30W. The counterclockwise rotating cold eddy
centered located near 28N 20W has adverse current toward the East on its
southern side.
Chart 2 shows the new location of the cold eddy by the time Tori got to
the area. Her path is plotted in blue. As you can see the cold eddy
moved to the Northwest out of her area so she was not affected
negatively by it!
During her first trek across the Atlantic there was a huge meander in
the Gulf Stream that had a negative current toward the West near her
path until a large warm eddy formed from the meander and the Gulf Stream
resumed a flow toward the East so Tori could go with the new flow!
